Provides technology assistance to NDI staff and field offices around the world, both remotely and in-person, to ensure optimal office efficiency, standards compliance, security, and productivity of NDI staff. Extensive international travel is required. The Field Support Engineer will perform the following duties:
Coordinates the assessment, standardization, implementation and support of technology used by NDI staff in field offices around the world.
Travels to NDI field offices to install and/or rebuild IT Infrastructure, conduct user training and help with information management planning and implementation.
Provide the following technical services: physical networks and cabling, procure and configure routers, switches, wireless access points, Google Apps setup/configuration, Windows file servers, domains, Active Directory, Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers, data backup systems, IP security cameras, video conferencing systems (Polycom), Smart UPS, Windows desktop and laptop computers, scanners, and printers.
Provide remote technical assistance on PC/laptop hardware and software, networks, servers and peripherals to field office staff using various remote desktop applications and technologies.
Conducts training sessions in person and remotely for NDI field staff on how to use standard NDI technologies, particularly the Google platform.
Researches, procures, tests, and promotes new technologies, tools?hardware and software?and technical services for NDI field office application.
Writes technical briefs on promising new technology for use in NDI field offices.
Writes procedures on how to install and configure various applications and equipment for field staff.
Writes and edits technical documentation and budgets for NDI program proposals and field office technology assessments.
Reads and stays abreast of the latest technology and trends, and looks for ways to leverage them to enhance NDI?s field office operations.
Frequent international travel for extended periods (2-4 weeks) may be required.
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related subject required.
A+, Microsoft certifications, NET+, CCNA, or other related technical certifications are a plus.
Two (2) years relevant professional technical experience a plus, but not required. On-the-job training and mentoring will be provided.
Experience working in Google Apps a plus.
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining network infrastructure (routers, switches, wireless access points, etc.) a plus.
Academic knowledge of network protocols a plus, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ICMP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, IMAP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL, etc. required.
Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, File Servers, and/or Linux and Linux Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers a plus.
Experience setting up wired and wireless LANs; ability to setup cabled infrastructure and to configure routers and wireless access points, especially Cisco access points, a plus.
Experience installing and maintaining Windows computers and computer peripherals required; virtualization and computer imaging system experience a plus.
Experience working or traveling in developing countries required.

install and configure Windows-based computer systems and standard software applications. Linux and MacOS ability a plus.
configure smartphones, Android, iOS, Blackberry, Microsoft platforms a plus.
update and maintain Windows-based computer systems.
clean and restore systems infected by viruses, worms, and other malware.
setup a SOHO wireless router and switched network.
create network diagrams in Visio.
Excellent English writing skills are a must, especially for non-technical audiences.
Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and via online mediums (such as IM) required.
Good database and spreadsheet skills strongly preferred, especially MS Access and Excel. Basic HTML skills a plus.
Fluency in written and spoken English required. Additional languages, such as Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian desirable.
